According to Notebookcheck, the WF-1000XM5 may retail for 319.99 Euros (~RM1,627) in Europe. While the conversion is clearly not the official local SRP, there is no denying that that is a steep increase over its current generation 1000XM4. Those earbuds currently retail at an SRP of RM1,099. Details about the WF-1000XM5 and its specifications are suggesting that there will be significant improvements over the last too. As per our earlier report, the earbuds will be sporting 8.4mm drivers, which the company calls Dynamic Driver X. The report also corroborates the previous leak which claims that each bud will weigh in at 5.9g, versus the 7.3g weight of the 1000XM4s. Also corroborated is the claim that the charging case will give the buds an additional 24 hours of playback time, thanks to the 500mAh battery. For that matter, the battery longevity inside each bud is still unknown, as is the effect of ANC on playback time. For connectivity, the WF-1000XM5 will be done via Bluetooth 5.3, while the supported audio codecs include HiRes Audio and DSEE Extreme, but no AptX, sadly. Additionally, the earbuds are expected to have an IPX4 rating, which is more or less the industry standard at this point. Further, the image renders of the WF-1000XM5 suggest that the ear tips will be made from the same memory foam material used in the 1000XM4. While it isn’t a bad thing, our long-term use of the earbuds have shown that the material isn’t quite as long-lasting as the silicon-based tips that were used with the 1000XM3. Specifically, they actually begin drying up and flaking, to the point that it affected its in-ear fitting, along with obvious sound leak from the outside.
