The official PlayStation Blog has not announced the availability of the update, but VGC claims to have it already installed on the outlet’s PS5 console. As with most console system updates, this also “improves system performance”, but what exactly was changed to make it so was not listed. It’s probably not too surprising that the DualSense Edge gets an update on the PS5 dedicated almost entirely to it. The controller adds features like trigger travel distance and the additional buttons at the back, something that the ordinary DualSense does not have. Recognising these inputs would probably justify the update. If you need a refresher, in addition to the extras mentioned above, the DualSense Edge also comes with detachable analogue stick modules. This would allow users to swap them out individually, rather than needing to buy a whole new controller when they inevitably get a case of stick drift sometime down the line. But at the same time, compared to the aforementioned Xbox Elite controller, the Edge only comes with one pair of back buttons or pedals, while its competitor can be fitted with two pairs.
The DualSense Edge controller is scheduled to be released on 26 January for a price of RM999. For those who don’t already own a PS5. that would also probably be a good time to pick up the console itself. Chances are there will also be a new bundle that comes with two of the ordinary DualSense controllers, rather than just the usual one, at around the same time.
