For the uninitiated, Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that was released on Nintendo’s Wii U and Switch consoles back in 2017 (yes, it’s actually been six years). As you’d expect, the special edition OLED Switch will feature a colour theme and design motifs that ties to the title. It’s also worth noting that this is the first time that Nintendo has produced a special edition version of the console that’s based on this particular Legend of Zelda continuity.
— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) March 28, 2023 The main body of the Tears of the Kingdom OLED Switch sports a matte black colour with etched wavy and circular patterns on top, while the included JoyCons feature gold front and white rear shells, along with green and white design motifs on the left and right units respectively. Its included dock, on the other hand, has an all-white body with a Hylian crest and surrounding patterns that’s presented in gold. However, do keep in mind that the special edition console does not come with a physical or digital copy of the game, hence why it’ll arrive earlier. In other words, you’ll need to purchase Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom separately in order to enjoy it on this newly announced and appropriately themed version of the OLED Switch. Besides the console, Nintendo also announced similar tie-in versions of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Switch Carrying Case. Both products feature designs inspired by Tears of the Kingdom, though these are offered mostly in black, along with gold coloured patterns. We should also point out that the right grip of the Pro Controller is presented in white, which might put off some fans or those with OCD. Unlike the special edition console, the two accessories will only be released on 12 May, alongside the video game. Pre-order for the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo OLED Switch and accessories are now available through local video game stores, including Impulse Gaming and M4G. Exact Malaysian pricing for the console, Pro Controller and carrying case are not confirmed at this time, whereas their pre-order prices differ by store. For your reference, the special edition Switch console is slated to retail for US$ 360 (~RM 1,587) in the US, while the controller and case are priced at US$ 75 (~RM 330) and US$ 30 (~RM 132) respectively.
