If you’re wondering what’s special about recrystallisation, then fret not. Casio was kind enough to provide an explanation via its press release, so you can close that Wikipedia page you probably just opened in a separate web browser window. “Recrystallisation adds a design element, with the stainless steel heat-treated and recrystallised to create crystalline patterns against a matte texture, giving the rugged appearance of fine metal fragments scattered across the surface,” it wrote. “Each individual component features a unique crystalline grain, delivering subtle differences in pattern, colour and lustre for each timepiece.” Got that? Okay, let’s move on. The first from the series, the DW-5040PG model, is almost a dead ringer for the classic DW-5000C. The watch features black bio-based resin bezel and band, along with recrystallised stainless steel with ion plating on its screw-lock rear case, buckle and band loop. Other standout features include engravings of the 40th Anniversary logo on the rear case, four stars (representing four decades) on the band loop, and a single star on the Mode button. Additionally, the ion plating on the watch’s rear case is presented in black, while the ones on the buckle and band loops are coloured in gold. There’s also the words “Project TEAM ‘Tough’” adorned on the dial, which is the name of the group of people who worked with G-Shock founder Ibe Kikuo to develop the DW-5000C. Next up, we have the silver GMW-B5000PS model, which features recrystallised and deep-hardened stainless steel with titanium carbide coating for its bezel, rear case, buckle, and band loop. Its rear case also has DLC coating applied and like the DW-5040PG, there’s an engraving of the 40th Anniversary logo. Additionally, on the Mode button is a star engraving, and on its dial is the phrase “Since 1983.” The gold GMW-B5000PG, on the other hand, is mostly similar to its silver sibling. However, instead of titanium carbide, its stainless-steel recrystallised exterior and parts are applied with Ion Plating. Features-wise, all three G-Shock 40th Anniversary Recrystallised Series watches come with the brand’s signature shock-resistant structure, 20-bar water resistance, 1/100-second stopwatch, and countdown timer. Exclusive to the DW-5040PG is an EL backlight and Flash Alert, while only the GMW-B5000PG and GMW-B5000PS models feature solar-based charging, Smartphone Link via Bluetooth, Multiband 6 support, five world times (from 39 cities), five daily alarms, and full-auto LED backlight. All three watches are available now in Malaysia via the Casio E-commerce website, G-Shock store, G-Factory, and authorised dealers nationwide. The G-Shock DW-5040PG model is priced at RM1,645, while the G-Shock GMW-B5000PG is at RM4,495 and the G-Shock GMW-B5000PS is at RM4,345. (Source: Casio Malaysia press release / official website)
