While this does not affect consumers in any way, it is a piece of big news for Apple retail employees as they have been still using iPhone XS as a Point of Sale (PoS) device. For the uninitiated, Apple provides its retail employees with iPhone XS to be used as a Point of Sale (PoS) device, allowing them to accept payments from customers in a seamless way.

Getting rid of laggy iPhone XS finally!

Lately, several employees stationed at retail stores across the globe have complained that they have been facing issues in their work due to laggy iPhone XS and many had to swap phones multiple times to get the work done. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman broke out the information in a tweet. “Apple retail stores will begin moving their point of sale systems (called Isaacs) from old iPhone Xs to iPhone 14s. This won’t mean anything for customers, but it’ll make things quicker for retail employees who often have to swap the aging iPhones out multiple times per day.” The tweet thread saw many Apple retail employees confirm that they have been indeed facing issues with the old iPhone XS and an upgrade was due a long time.  One user who goes by the username Blake Deluca replied to Gurman that the main motive behind replacing the older iPhone XS with the new iPhone 14 for store employees is Apple’s new Tap to Pay feature which now comes built into iPhones. This will help the employees greatly as they will no longer have to carry a card reader attached to the iPhone all the time for accepting payments from buyers at the store. iPhone XS was released around five years ago in 2018. It was an incremental upgrade over iPhone X, which is known for its iconic design and for featuring Face ID for the first time ever in an iPhone. Also, iOS 17 is the iOS update that iPhone XS will receive and it is expected that iPhone XS will not be in the list of compatible devices when the next iOS update arrives. While Gurman has not revealed when will Apple replace the older iPhone XS with the new iPhone 14. However, it is expected that the transition might take some time and will be applicable to all Apple Store employees around the globe.
